General Questions

How often do you update?
We normally add new photo sets two or three times a week, new videos once a week, and new stories once or twice a week.
How do I cancel my membership?
See the Cancel Page. Your membership will continue to be active for the period you’ve paid for. If you bought a non-recurring or pay-by-phone membership there is no need to cancel.

Browser Questions

Your site looks funny in my browser. Why?
That’s probably a bug in your browser or on one of our pages. Let us know, and we’ll try to fix it.
Will Hotberries.net work with my browser / operating system?
We develop our site to follow strictly existing web standards like XHTML and CSS2, so our pages should work well with any standards-compliant browser. We test everything in Firefox on Windows and Linux, in Internet Explorer 6 and 7 on Windows, and in Konqueror and Opera on Linux. We also test in text-only browsers like Lynx and Elinks. We don’t test on Mac OS at the moment, but we expect that everything will work fine in both Firefox and Safari on Mac (Safari is quite similar to Konqueror on Linux). If you experience any problems, please let us know, and we’ll try to take care of it.

Video Questions

How do I view the videos?
The videos should be downloaded first and then opened in you media player (e.g., by double-clicking on them). You can download the videos by right-clicking (on Mac, left-click and hold) on the download link and selecting “Save Target As” / “Save Link As”. If you click the links normally, the videos will typically open directly in your media player which may not be able to handle downloading appropriately. You may also use a download manager to download individual video files – this will allow you to resume interrupted downloads or schedule downloads for later.
Can I watch the videos online / in my browser?
Not yet, we have no support for streaming videos. However, we are working on a solution where you can view videos online in any Flash-capable browser (similar to the solution YouTube uses).
What format are your videos in? What software will I need to view them?
We deliver videos in four different formats: QuickTime, MPG, WMV and AVI, and at several different bitrates and resolutions. The lower bitrate/resolution files have poorer quality but downloads faster. The MPG files are encoded in MPEG-1 in low quality, and should play in almost all video players on all platforms. New videos: Our newest videos are encoded in MPG (low quality), WMV (medium quality), and full size h.264/QuickTime and WMV. For best quality, we recommend you download the QuickTime videos, they use the very good and standardized h.264 encoding, and have better quality and smaller file sizes than WMV. To view h.264/QuickTime videos, use:
  • VLC Media Player for Windows, Mac and Linux our recommended option. The player is fast, compatible and will also play almost any video you’ll find on a porn site these days.
  • Apple QuickTime Player, available for Windows and Mac. It will play our QuickTime videos fine, but is slower than VLC and not so good for playing porn vidoes in other formats.
  • If you look around, you may also find h.264 codecs and support for the mp4 container, which you can use for Windows Media Player.

Streaming videos: We’re trying out streaming videos using Flash – just like you see on YouTube. The streaming is offered in low and medium quality (chose the best one that your internet connection can handle!), and you can seek around in the file just like with a downloaded file. If you have the newest Adobe Flash Player, you can also view the h.264 / QuickTime videos that way – that’s the ‘High Quality’ streaming option. Currently the player has to download the whole file before it starts playing, but it’s still a good option if you don’t want to install VLC or QuickTime.

Older videos: The WMV files are encoded in medium quality, and should play in all recent versions of Windows Media Player without the need for any extra software. The high-quality and HD-quality AVI videos use the ISO standard MPEG-4 codec, which has high quality, good compression rate (so you don’t have to download as much) and is widely supported. If your system is not already set up with the necessary MPEG-4 support, you may need to download and install one of the following software options:

  • XviD codec 1.1.2 for Windows (Official page). Use this if you want to use Windows Media Player or another Windows player without built-in XviD support.
  • The VLC Media Player is a cross-platform media player with built-in support for our video files. Available for Windows, MacOS, Linux, BeOS, and handheld devices.
  • For Mac users, installing Perian will allow you to view the videos in the Quicktime Player. Perian also includes support for lots of other useful codecs.
  • For Linux users, most media players (such as mplayer, Xine, VLC) already have the necessary codecs installed.
We will (slowly) reencode our older videos to the new codecs.
I can’t find the “Save Target As” menu option in Internet Explorer!
It may have been disabled by the “Content Advisor”. See this Microsoft Knowledge Base article for information on how to fix this problem.
I’ve followed the instructions and most of the videos work, but one of them won’t play!
The video file may be incompletely downloaded or it may be corrupt. Check that the file size (in megabytes) correspond with what’s listed in the video index (next to the download link you used). You can try downloading the video again. If that doesn’t help, there may be something wrong with the video file we’ve published (yes, this actually happens from time to time, particularly with Windows Media Player which is very picky about video files) – in that case, let us know and we’ll fix it.
Do you use DRM? Can I view the videos offline?
No, we don’t use DRM (Digital Restrictions Management). You can continue enjoying the videos you’ve downloaded after your subscription has expired. You don’t need to be connected to the Internet to view downloaded videos; you can still have full lesbian porn capabilities even when you’re cruising down the Amazon river or from a cheap hotel in Calcutta (provided you bring your laptop and sufficient batteries...).
Those embedded flash videos are really neat! How do you do it?
The videos are encoded to FLV using FFmpeg, and then we use the FlowPlayer to play videos in your browser. Both are free / open source software, and you can download the source on the project pages.
